About
About J.C. Baldwin
J.C. Baldwin Construction Company is a California contractor specializing in coastal and geotechnical construction in some of the most challenging environments in the state.
Company Overview
Specialized Work for Difficult Conditions
Since 1976, the company has delivered practical construction solutions for projects involving bluff stabilization, seawalls, landslide repair, shoring, structural underpinning, and specialized civil work.
J.C. Baldwin partners with engineers, municipalities, public agencies, developers, HOAs, resorts, and private property owners to execute projects where access is difficult, conditions are complex, and long-term performance matters.
Many of its projects involve active shorelines, unstable slopes, occupied properties, or limited-access sites where practical construction knowledge is just as important as the design itself.
Publicly documented featured work includes projects in Pismo Beach, Solana Beach, La Jolla, and San Diego, while the company's awards history reflects recognition for shoreline protection, landslide stabilization, and marine concrete work over multiple decades.

The Company Begins
J.C. Baldwin Construction Company was established in Carlsbad with a focus on specialized general engineering work that demanded practical field execution, not commodity construction.
1980's
Building a Coastal Reputation
Through the 1980's, the company expanded its presence on California shoreline projects, building experience in sea walls, access work, and highly exposed coastal construction conditions.
1990's
Award-Winning Stabilization
The 1990's cemented the firm's reputation with multiple industry awards — ASCE and CGEA recognition for the Point Loma Shoreline Protection Project in 1992, a CGEA Outstanding Project Award for the Stonehill Drive landslide stabilization in Dana Point in 1994, and an ASCE Award of Excellence for the Casa de la Playa shoreline stabilization in 1999.
2000's
Expanding Technical Depth
As California sites became more constrained and demanding, J.C. Baldwin deepened its work in bluff stabilization, underpinning, shoring, and specialty geotechnical construction. In 2001, the firm received the American Concrete Institute's Marine Concrete Structure Project of the Year for coastal bluff stabilization work.
2010's
High-Profile Coastal Projects
Work on the Central Coast earned ASCE San Luis Obispo's Outstanding Private Sector Civil Engineering Project award in Pismo Beach in 2013, followed by CGEA's Outstanding Project Award for the Martin Resorts Shore Cliff Lodge bluff stabilization in 2017.
Today
Still Built for Difficult Ground
Today, J.C. Baldwin continues that legacy through coastal and geotechnical construction for steep terrain, unstable shorelines, infrastructure-sensitive sites, and demanding California field conditions.
